San Felipe has been a popular tourist getaway for many years. Each year visitors fall in love with the area and many eventually retire to San Felipe or to one of the outlying campos.

Recent interest in the area has inspired many improvements at both civic and social levels. Property development companies have pioneered higher qualities in building techniques, better security and more luxurious amenities. The area is rapidly growing. New restaurants, improvements to the local airport, the construction of an 18 hole golf course north of town and the gradual conversion of the two lane Mexicali highway into a four lane freeway promise an attractive alternative to the expensive choices north of the border.

Social activities are abundant. Aside from the numberous traditional Mexican holiday celebrations, there are a few events that are uniquely to San Felipe. In November of each year the town busies itself with the Snowbird Festival, a celebration designed to welcome back the norteamericanos who have chosen to vacate the area during the hot and humid summer months. There is also the Shrimp Festival, when kiosks line the Malecón (the beach road), offering savory shrimp dishes. Another celebration, the Fiesta Marisco (Seafood Celebration), has local restaurants trying to outdo each other for the best seafood dish.

Along with the usual seaside resort activities, there are plenty of local activities in San Felipe. Poker Runs, Gambling Nights, Lu'aus, Karioke Nights, Desert Tours, Hot Spring Adventures, Dinner Theatre are just a few. San Felipe has, for most of the year, a wonderful climate. Winters are sunny and temperate. Spring and Fall are sunny and warm. Summers can be a challenge for their heat and humidity but many find, with an air conditioned room as a base, trips to the beach can be quite enjoyable.
